"Climb the mountains and get their good tidings, Nature's peace will flow into you as sunshine flows into trees. The winds will blow their own freshness into you, while cares will drop off like autumn leaves." - John Muir
I had such an incredible time adventuring with Derek, Katie & Kota! We hiked a small peak in the Adirondack's just before sunset and talked each other's ears off the entire climb up. Derek & I go way back and I hadn't seen him since he & Katie started dating over 5 years ago. I was so excited to finally meet his little lady and of course their adorable & smiley pup, Dakota! Katie was such a trooper for owning that sundress, atop of a windy, 55 degree mountain! Prior to busting out my camera, I had asked them to just show up & be themselves, and they did just that! The real magic happens when we let go of the reigns & expect no particular thing. We allow the universe to take it's course & unfold effortless beauty before our eyes.
Witnessing the dynamic between Derek & Katie, was a true honor. I love how they naturally fell into each other's arms throughout the entire session, with no instruction to do so. Their bond is strong and I think they may have only looked away from each other a handful of times. I imagined tiny hearts floating up from their eyes lids when they blinked, like you'd see in cartoons. They laughed the entire evening, each giggle feeding the next. Derek is so gentle with Katie, and whisped her off her feet a few times. I don't think Katie could've cracked a wider smile, she was absolutely smitten!
I have to also mention that Dakota has to be the chillest dog I've ever met. He was so calm & relaxed, and just happened to situate himself in the best positions.
Once golden hour set in, their energy melted into sweet bliss. Capturing those quiet, vulnerable moments, seriously tugged on my heart strings! And for a brief time, I felt like I was a part of their love story.
Just before the sun set below the horizon, we wrapped up the session and made our way back down the mountain, then stopped for dinner on our way back home. The owner of the restaurant insisted Kota come in to join us and set up a fresh bowl of water for him to enjoy, which of course was well deserved! Conversation never ran dry and we ate the most delicious meals. That night felt like days and I seriously didn't want it to end!
There's a reason why the universe brought these two together. Their love runs deep & I believe the proof is in the photographs.
